Great Friend
My husband, Curtis Von Gunten, met Mike in the US Navy. I met him that same year, 1968, as Curt's girlfriend. We were from Bath, not far from Cuyahoga Falls. It was disappointing that Mike could not be in our wedding, as he was in Viet Nam. We attended Mike's funeral. It literally crushed my husband. I still have the letters he wrote to my husband and me. I am so pleased that Mike's aunt came up to our home for me to give her our memorial for Mike. It is Viet Nam Memorial framed art piece dedicated for
Mike. It had hung in our family room for around 20 years. Mike was a wonderful person and friend. The last time that we saw him was when we picked him up at Quantico and went out dinner shortly before he was deployed. Curt and I intended to make a trip to Viet Nam; however, he died in 2017 before we got to go. A big disappointment for us that we never saw Viet Nam where Mike was so brave as a corpsman giving his life for the United States and the US Marines he was there to treat. God bless. Cheryl

Dear Friend from Cheryl Hardman Von Gunten
You have never been forgotten. Curt and I kept your letters and bought VietNam Memorial artwork for our homes to keep you in our daily thoughts. Now one of those pieces hangs in our son's family home. The other in ours. You missed sharing so much with us- our wedding, our 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Curt passed away in August, 2017 - he always regarded your friendship as one of his best. You left a void in our lives. We shall always speak of your bravery. Rest in Peace, Mike
